Roy Alon died on Wednesday, the 1st of February 2006, of a heart attack.

Roy is well known as being one of the worlds most famous hollywood stuntman. He is in the Guiness Book Of World Records, named as "The Worlds Most Prolific Stuntman" after appearing in more than 1,000 cinema and TV productions. Roy worked on many Hollywood blockbusters including all the Superman films, and most of the James Bond films working with Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan. Even though Hollywood was constantly calling, Leeds born Alon stayed close to home performing stunts on some of television's best-loved series, including Coronation Street, Heartbeat, A Touch of Frost and Last of the Summer Wine. Mr Alon was highly respected in the film world, giving masterclasses at the British Film Institute and the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television, in Bradford, and holding a place in the Hollywood Stuntmen's Hall of Fame.

He was born in Otley and left school at 14, joining the merchant navy at 15. By the time he was 18, Mr Alon had made eight Atlantic crossings. He went to the then-fledgling Yorkshire Television in 1968, where he managed to talk his way into doing stunts. His first series was Tom Grattan's War, followed by Hadleigh. He became friends with comic Les Dawson over the course of more than 90 TV shows, and Dawson and his team wrote a regular stunt gag into every episode to feature him.

He recently finished work for the movie The Da Vinci Code.

He leaves behind his Wife Anne, and his son & Daughter.

Sorry

Last time I saw him was three or four years ago one hot sunny day at Casa Mia cafe in Chapel Allerton. He wasn't any different to the first time I met him the best part of 40 years ago at the Del Rio in Leeds. I didn't see him often but thought the world of him . I wish i could have paid my respects Roy so this will have to do. I miss you .

The first time I met Roy was at an agency party. His first words were. ' Hullo, I'm Roy Alon. I'm going to be a stunt man'. He was waiting for his first stunt booking which was to drive a car into the river aire. It was canceled due to the pollution in the river. That was the start of a long friendship. He would say that if he thought he was getting too big for his boots, he would go back to where he was brought up to bring him back down to earth. He was one of the nicest people I have ever met. We lost contact when I moved to London but I often thought about him and wished him well. He is a a great loss, but will be well remembered.

Sad at the Loss of Someone I used to know well.

I am saddened by Roy's death. I only just heard about it three days ago. I knew him and his then-girlfiend Nola well in the Sixties. He was part of the crowd I used to knock about with. But since he became a stuntman, travelling all over the world, I have only seen him twice - the last time in da Mario on the Headrow about 9 or 10 years ago. I was always sorry not to have been able to keep in more regular touch. My sympathies go to Anne and his two children.
